Pressure Washing Tips

How to Prepare for Your Pressure Washing Appointment

By Logan Inboden · Updated June 14, 2026 · 5 min read

The question I hear most when booking a job is simple: "Do I need to be home for pressure washing?" For the vast majority of Bradenton exterior jobs, the honest answer is no — you don't have to be there. As long as I can reach water and the areas being cleaned, you're free to be at work, running errands, or relaxing inside. Here's exactly what makes that possible, plus a short prep checklist so your appointment goes smoothly start to finish.

Clean Bradenton home and brilliant white driveway after a pressure washing appointment

Do you need to be home for pressure washing?

In most cases, no. The two things I genuinely need are access to an outdoor water spigot and access to the surfaces being cleaned — your driveway, walkways, house exterior, or pool cage. If those are reachable and I have any gate or community codes ahead of time, I can complete the job whether you're home or not. Many of my regulars schedule their annual driveway cleaning for a workday and simply come home to a brilliant-white finish.

There are a few times being home (or at least reachable by phone) does help: interior window cleaning, a locked side gate with no code, a private well instead of city water, or a first visit where you'd like to walk the property with me and point out problem spots. Even then, a quick conversation when I arrive is usually all it takes. If you travel often or own a seasonal property, my home watch service is built for exactly this — I keep an eye on the place and handle the cleaning while you're away.

A simple prep checklist

None of this is heavy lifting. Five minutes the night before keeps everything moving on the day of your appointment:

  • Move vehicles out of the way. Pull cars out of the driveway and off the area being cleaned so I can surface-clean every inch evenly — no skipped tire patches.
  • Clear loose items. Move potted plants, doormats, patio furniture, toys, grills, and decorations off the work area or a few feet clear of the house.
  • Close all windows and doors. Make sure exterior windows, doors, and any pet doors are shut tight, especially before a house soft wash, so no water or solution gets inside.
  • Bring in or secure fragile items. Wind chimes, flags, screens you're worried about, and anything delicate near the walls are best moved indoors.
  • Secure pets indoors. Keep dogs and cats inside and away from open exterior doors. The equipment is loud, and it's safest for them out of the work zone.
  • Confirm the outdoor spigot works. Turn it on briefly to be sure it has good flow and isn't shut off or capped. Jobs run off your outdoor supply, and the impact on your bill is negligible.
  • Make sure I can get in. Unlock side gates or text me the gate, HOA, or community codes in advance so I'm not stuck at a closed entrance.

What Polar Bear handles for you

Plenty of the prep is on my end, not yours. Before a soft wash, I pre-wet your landscaping and rinse it again afterward, and I dilute the cleaning solutions to safe levels so your plants and grass are protected. I bring a professional, industry-grade trailer rig with its own hoses and surface cleaners, so you don't need to supply anything but the water. And on house washes, the finish is left smelling fresh — never like bleach.

One honest note on technique: not every surface should be blasted. I never put high pressure on house siding, screens, or roofs — and Polar Bear does not clean roofs at all. Delicate surfaces get a low-pressure soft wash instead, while the high-pressure surface cleaner is reserved for concrete. If you're not sure which method your home needs, my guide on soft washing vs pressure washing breaks it down surface by surface.

HOA and quick scheduling notes

HOA violation letters for dirty driveways and algae are common across Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch, and they often come with a deadline. If you're racing the clock, mention it when you book — my HOA compliance cleaning is prioritized for same-day response, and it's guaranteed to pass inspection or I come back free. Most quotes go out the same day, and most jobs are completed within 48 hours of booking, so being home isn't a bottleneck.

The bottom line

For nearly every job, you don't need to rearrange your day. Give me water, clear the work area, secure pets and fragile items, and pass along any gate codes — then go live your life. When you're ready, send a photo or a short description through my contact page and I'll give you an honest, free estimate. I'm Logan, I personally do the work, and I won't leave until it's done right.

Pressure washing prep FAQ

Do you need to be home for pressure washing?
Usually, no. As long as I can reach an outdoor water spigot and the areas being cleaned — and I have any gate or HOA codes ahead of time — most Bradenton driveway and exterior jobs can be done while you're at work or running errands. You only need to be home if the work is indoors (like interior windows) or if access requires you to let me in.
Will pressure washing use a lot of my water or run up my bill?
No. Jobs run off your outdoor water supply, which is industry standard, and the impact on your bill is negligible. Just make sure your outdoor spigot is turned on and working before the appointment. If your home is on a private well, let me know in advance so we can plan around the supply.
